A Summer Scorcher in Devon

Posted by Chris on July 8th, 2010 | 0 Comments
It’s been a glorious few weeks here in incredibly sunny Cofton – and we really do mean incredibly sunny! We’ve been tweeting about the fact that a friend of ours has just returned from Normandy only to find the weather has been hotter here.
Our visitors have really been making the most of our sunny holiday park in Devon with the swimming pool proving very popular for those who haven’t wanted to meander down to the beach which is a stone’s throw away in nearby Dawlish.
Holiday parks in Devon do seem to have that “something special”: good weather (on the whole), in the heart of the country’s most celebrated region for great food and plenty of things to do that won’t cost the earth thanks to our many beaches, rambling moors and general geography.
According to recent weather reports, this year is the hottest start to the summer on record since 1920 and is set to continue.  With other parts of the UK not enjoying as much sunshine as we are in sun drenched Devon – we are attracting even larger numbers of UK visitors here at Cofton.
But don’t just take our word for it – take a look at some of the photos we’ve taken here on the Park as holidaymakers bask in the sunshine.  So, fancy visiting our holiday park in Devon then this year?!  Hope to see you soon!

Enjoy Your Slice of Devon This Summer

Posted by Chris on April 30th, 2010 | 0 Comments

Summer is nearly upon – in fact we are all enjoying the last fling of Spring here at Cofton!  At this time of the year,  Cofton Country begins to come to life.  The sun is finally shining!  In Cofton itself, we have begun to open the facilities such as The Swan Pub and mini-market in preparation for another busy summer.

Each year we welcome people coming to us to enjoy “their slice of Devon” for a week or two as they unwind with us and enjoy a family holiday.  Devon is a special place for thousands of families for so many reasons.

The self catering cottages and luxury apartments have already welcomed visitors to the area who have come for relaxing breaks to enjoy the scenery, stroll down to the local pubs for some hearty meals and local ales.  Others are here to make the most of some of the many attractions such as Crealy Great Adventure Parks, Woodlands, Pennywell Farm and some of the many beaches that we have to offer.

For those on a tight budget but wanting a break in Devon, our holiday homes can offer a real home from home – with all the privacy of a cottage.

Devon’s reputation for good food, great weather and breathtaking scenery keeps families coming back for more each year.  Cofton has been welcoming families coming back year after year to unwind and capture the very best of the region during the warm summer months.

Fishing Holidays in Devon

Posted by Chris on April 25th, 2010 | 0 Comments

Fishing holidays offer fishing enthusiasts the opportunity to leave their daily worries behind to enjoy days upon end coarse fishing around our large fishing lakes, whilst drinking in the surrounding wildlife and tranquillity.

Here at Cofton Country Holidays we are fortunate to have five large lakes which have attracted fishing fans throughout the year.  Surrounded by gentle Devon countryside and peppered with a number of cosy pubs – the lakes are one of the many reasons that people book their coarse fishing holiday with Cofton.

Luscombe and Trusham Lakes are our specimen carp lakes and it is not unusual to catch a nice large fish.  Our largest carp to date has weighed in at a massive 28lbs.  Our three other lakes: Mamhead, Powderham and Ashcombe Pools are teaming with carp (however, they tend to be smaller in these lakes, weighing up to 9lbs).

Whilst Dad spends the day fishing, the rest of the family enjoy many of the woodland walks, onsite facilities such as the swimming pool which is open in the summer months, fresh food from one of our local pubs; or even a spot of shopping, followed by a lunch in the heart of Exeter City Centre which is a mere 20 minute drive away from the peaceful surroundings of Cofton.

Fishing Breaks at Cofton

Posted by Chris on February 9th, 2010 | 0 Comments

With the first signs of Spring emerging in Cofton, the carp and coarse fishing lakes seem to be gradually coming back to life after a particularly hard winter.

We have been busy continuing our work on the Lakes to make sure that they are accessible to all.  During the winter months we have carried maintenance on some of the paths on the lake just to keep everything in good order.

In fact we have already had some early visitors to our Devon Coarse and Carp Fishery in late January who appeared to enjoy a well earned and peaceful break with us.  I took a stroll down to the Lakes just yesterday and it is such a peaceful place to be: crisp and still during the winter months and a hive of activity thanks to all the wildlife during Spring and Summer months.

Our pools with the small carp and silver fish are coming to life as are The Lakes full of our carp.  Around the country, we are reading about angling clubs and groups who are beginning to check their line strengths, spools and unused lines ready for the warmer days.

Finally, we have just noticed that Go Fishing is asking for readers to send in their favourite fishery as they regularly receive suggestions from people to include their favourite local coarse fishing venue.  We would love to be amongst the Top 50 so if you would like to nominate us, please do visit the link below:

We look forward to seeing you soon and contact a member of our friendly team for more information about coarse fishing holidays in Devon.

Valentines Break in Devon

Posted by Chris on January 22nd, 2010 | 0 Comments

Valentines is rapidly approaching and is a time of expectant celebration for many as they hope to “pop the question” and a chance to escape for a short romantic break in Devon.

Devon has been popular as a summer holiday destination for centuries due to the warmer climate and natural beauty; in recent times it has also become renowned for its great food and even vineyards!

In the early part of the year, Devon is waking up from the winter months and still has empty beaches to stroll across to work up an appetite for lunch, cultural diversity from shows and galleries and even concerts.  In fact, in recent times, Joss Stone’s mum opened a bar in the centre of Exeter that has many famous names playing and is a great fun night out.   For the shopper-holics there is the opportunity to shop in the recently opened shopping lanes of Exeter Princess Hay and then enjoy a spot of lunch in the many restaurants in the area.

Accommodation is critical to any romantic break and Cofton Country Holidays offers a range of properties from the stable cottages on the Easton Estate, cottages within Cofton Park as well as luxurious holiday homes, giving a real feeling of getting away from it all.

For those looking to “pop the question” and anxious of setting the scene, a bottle of Rose Cava and a small bottle of chocolates will be placed within your cottage or holiday home to welcome you.  There some great restaurants in the area, all of whom would happily help if required and get that champagne on ice.  Within a fifteen minute stroll from Cofton Park is The Anchor, serving locally caught fish or The Ship which is also nearby, with its low ceilings, open fire and small close of seating areas.

If you are looking to pull out all the stops then a short drive away in the village of Kenton two locally renowned restaurants can be found.  The Rodean Restaurant has two AA rosettes and offers an a la carté menu with a wide range of excellent wines.

Chi, also found within Kenton offers a range of classic and modern Chinese food and is a real experience.  Upon arrival, guests enjoy a drink at the bar before being shown through to the main restaurant.  The prices are fairly high but it is well worth it.

For more details on booking a romantic break in Devon this Valentines, visit our Special Offers page and book one of our Valentines Breaks today – a three night stay from just £145 including a bottle of Cava and a box of chocolates to welcome you.

Half-Term Family Break in Devon

Posted by Chris on January 22nd, 2010 | 0 Comments

Many of us have fond memories of family holidays in Devon or even the odd short family break during the half-term periods in the Spring and Autumn terms.   Such memories always seem to include the milder climate, great food and gentle pace of life.
As one of those people, such was my passion for the area that I decided to move here post my “London stint” and haven’t regretted a single day.  I still look forward to the half-terms though as many friends bring down their families for a short break.  We go around the Devon region enjoying the many family attractions, the diverse nature of the area from the Moors (and long walks) to strolls on the beach at Dawlish and further afield.  When we are unable to accommodate our guests, we suggest that they book into one of the self-catering cottages in the nearby village of at Cofton Country Holiday Cottages.
Cofton Country Holidays Park is close to Exeter and even closer to Dawlish, nestled in the rolling hills of the Devon countryside offering self-catering cottages with that home-from-home feel.  Kick off your shoes after a hard days shopping or stick the kettle on to warm everybody up after a fun couple of hours on Dawlish beach or the Moors.
Devon also attracts many families for its wealth of regional food and Cofton is close to a number of great eateries from The Rodean Restaurant in Kenton (a short drive away) which is renowned for its exclusive menu and a la carté menus to one of favourites, a cosy, traditional British pub called The Anchor at Cockwood, its daily menu includes locally caught fish throughout the season (and dependant on weather).
Another great pub is The Ship, also located in Cockwood and is popular during the cold winter months with its roaring open fire – it also has a seated area just outside overlooking the small harbour and is a great place to watch the sun setting later in the year and you do see many a walker sitting outside in the winter months too!  Both The Anchor and The Ship are just on the doorstep of Cofton and are about 15 minutes away (an ideal stroll to burn off a few of those calories!)
This February Half-Term, Cofton Country Holidays has a number of great deals for those who are looking for high standards at reasonable prices.  From only £125 for three nights, or stay for a week at just £250 – Cofton offers a relaxing family break in Devon.

Ben Butterell aged 10 was very excited to show us photos on his mobile phone of the Common Carp and Mirror Carp he caught today in Cofton Lakes.  He didn’t catch anything yesterday but was really pleased today as his dad had only caught 4 little ones.  Well done Ben!
