The War Horse, filmed on location in Dartmoor South Devon
Staying at Cofton you will be in easy reach of visiting the dramatic landscapes of Dartmoor used in Steven Spielburgs latest film The War Horse. The film is based on a novel written by Devon's own author Michael Morpurgo, an incredibly moving story about one horse's experience in the deadly chaos of the first world war. In 1914, Joey, a young farm horse, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front.
See for yourself the beauty of Dartmoor and visit the location where the story of Joey the horse was filmed, Sheepstor near Burrator Reservoir and Widecombe in the Moor which feature in the movie. See the impressive rugged moorland and granite tors separated by rolling hills and ancient woodlands. Steven Spielburg said himself that Dartmoor itself was the third main character in the film. Dartmoor National Park have two guided walks currently on offer, Saturday 21st January and Sunday 19th February, be the first to experience the War Horse landscape with a National Park Guide.
