At Paignton Zoo you will find over 2,000 animals spread across 80 acres of natural habitat.
Be prepared for all seasons as you adventure around the Zoo. See the seasons as journey through six different habitat zones – from the Savannah to the Wetlands.
See majestic giraffes tower over ostriches, black rhinos and cheetahs in the Savannah. Parakeets, venomous lizards soak up the heat in the dry plains of the desert. Tigers, lions, gibbons, gorillas and orangutangs swinging around in the wooded forest.
See pelicans, ducks, flamingos and cranes in the sanctuary of the Wetland. Poison dart frogs, green anacondas, boa constrictors and dwarf caiman can be found in the Tropical Forest.
The final habitat is the Primley zone, named after the home of the Zoo’s founder. In Primley you can discover our troop of baboons, giant tortoises, crocodiles and owls. Plants from many different countries including the prehistoric ginkgo plant.
Many of the animals are endangered. As one of the UK’s top zoos it is their mission to help preserve our global wildlife heritage, protecting animals from extinction.
They’re part of a worldwide network of zoos which cares for and breeds rare species. Animals like the Sulawesi crested macaque, the western lowland gorilla and the black rhino are here for a reason.
