Dogs Friendly Beaches in South Devon

We’re lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful, dog friendly beaches. We love welcoming four-legged friends onto our sandy shorelines, but note there are restrictions in force on certain areas of our beaches (assistance dogs such as Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs are exempt).

Where can I walk my dog?

Dawlish Warren
Beach Rd, Dawlish, EX7 0NF (2.5 miles – 45 minute walk / 5 minute drive from Cofton)

Dogs are not permitted from 1st April – 30th Sept between the lifeguard tower and groyne 3 on the beach. From 1st May – 30th Sept on a 230 metre section of the beach, west of Red Rock Cafe (follow seawall from Dawlish Warren – Dawlish), nor beyond groyne 9 main beach (all year round).

Dogs are permitted all year round on the section of the beach directly to the right of the lifeguard tower (tidal beach) and between groyne 4 and 9 on the main beach.

Around the main resort and nature reserve all dogs must be kept on leads, no more than 2 metres in length, all year round.

Dawlish Town Beach and Coryton Cove

Dogs are permitted along the seashore from the slipway adjacent to the Railway Station until 230 metres before Red Rock at Dawlish Warren. Dogs are not permitted along the seashore from the slipway adjacent to the beach cafe to Coryton Cove from 1st May – 30th Sept.

Holcombe Beach – East Cliff Slipway, Teignmouth
East Cliff Walk, Teignmouth, TQ14 8TW (4.8 miles – 12 minute drive from Cofton)

Dogs are permitted all year round.

Teignmouth
Beach St, Teignmouth, TQ14 8SY (5.7 miles – 16 minute drive from Cofton)

Dogs are not permitted from 1st May – 30th Sept (along the seashore between the slipway at Eastcliff and the Lighthouse at the Point. Dogs are to be kept on a lead in and around the Den and Promenade.

Shaldon beach, Shaldon, Teignmouth, TQ14 0DP (7.3 miles – 23 minute drive from Cofton)

Dogs are not permitted from 1st May – 30th Sept (along the seashore between the Clipper Quay and the steps to the beach approximately 410 metres south east of the Clipper Quay.
