Things To do In Paignton When It’s Raining

Paignton Pier

Paignton is a beautiful seaside town in South Devon. What’s more, it’s just a 35-minute drive from our site, providing the perfect day out for families, couples and single travellers alike. Found just south of Torquay, there’s a gorgeous stretch of sandy coastline which is one of the main draws to the area when the sun is shining.

But what about when the weather turns and suddenly lazing on the beach and building sandcastles isn’t all that fun? We’re here to give you a rundown of all the best things to do in Paignton when it’s raining, so you can rest assured that no matter the time of year you decide to visit, there’s something to get stuck into and enjoy with your loved ones.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park

Paignton Zoo is a wonderful day out whatever the weather, and the good news is there are places to explore which won’t involve being outside in the rain during a visit here. Owned by the Wild Planet Trust, Paignton Zoo is active in conservation work as well as looking after their animals.

There are big cats, amphibians, crocodiles, reptiles, birds, apes and loads of other species and animals to explore, plus an indoor play area, nature trail and a restaurant for when refreshment is needed. Even if it is raining, we still highly recommend donning your waterproofs and umbrellas to make the most out of a visit here, as there really are some fantastic talks and attractions to learn all there is to know about the animals that reside here. Check out the website to plan your visit.

Vue Cinema

For movie lovers, there’s a Vue Cinema in Paignton, located right next to the beach in fact. Catch a movie if the weather makes a turn for the worst or plan a movie into your visit to add something additional to your day or evening in Paignton. Why not tie in a trip to the cinema with a romantic dinner for two and make it a date night?

Paignton Pier

Don’t be put off the wonderful Paignton Pier just because it’s raining, there are some fun indoor activities to get stuck into once you’re there (which is why it’s made it onto our list).

Granted, there’s more outdoor entertainment to enjoy, but if the heavens have opened, you can’t miss out on heading to the arcade to play on the variety of indoor games. There’s racing games and air hockey, as well as toys to win and plenty of coin machines to try your luck at.

Palace Theatre

Located on Palace Avenue next to Palace Avenue Park, visitors to the theatre can enjoy a whole host of plays, performances and even some classes. From the Circus of Horror and Agatha Christie’s Spiderweb through to mindfulness sessions and bands, if you’re partial to a live performance or two, you’ll find something you’ll enjoy at the Palace Theatre.

Lucky 7 Club

If you’re after something a little quirky that boasts fabulous entertainment, you’re going to want to pay a visit to Lucky 7 Club, a Speakeasy bar tucked away in Paignton. A wonderful place to visit as a couple or with friends, you can sit back with your favourite beverage in hand and enjoy a variety of different performances, including cabaret, comedy and even burlesque!

Escape rooms

Since escape rooms made an appearance on many of our highstreets, they’ve become an undisputable source of entertainment, and perhaps it’s no surprise that it’s another super fun thing to do in Paignton when it’s raining. Choose from a variety of different themed rooms and once you’re locked in, you’ll need to solve a series of puzzles and clues in order to escape in the time allocated.

This is a great option for families with older children and groups of friends, and something we thoroughly recommend for tonnes of fun. Visit Escape Rooms Paignton to find out more.
