Cycling in Devon
10 July 2016
Whether you want to have a leisurely ride along the coast, make a day trip to the Velopark or take it off-road in the forest, Devon has your biking needs covered.
There’s lots of opportunity and lots of lovely routes for cycling in Devon.
Nearby is Cofton Holiday Park. Set within 80 acres of glorious Devon countryside, Cofton has been a family-run holiday park for 40 years. Guests return year after year to enjoy our beautiful and convenient location, extensive facilities and wide choice of accommodation types for all the family.
Exe Estuary Trail
The Exe Estuary Trail is a fantastic cycling route. It stretches from Dawlish to Exeter and then (if you’re brave) all the way to Exmouth. It’s a flat mostly traffic free route into the heart of Exeter that provides a fantastic family day out.
Exeter is a level ride (approx 12 miles) there are many pubs and restaurants along the way to stop for some refreshment, as well as the historic Powderham castle.
Bikes are also accepted on the Starcross-Exmouth ferry (£5.50 per person including bike), so it’s well worth taking a trip.
If you think it sounds fantastic and are looking for somewhere to base yourself, the trail is only a five minute ride away from Cofton Holidays.

Torbay Velopark in Paignton
Torbay Velopark is open seven days a week, is a regional centre for cycling and an excellent part of South Devon’s sporting infrastructure. Young, old, experienced or new, the Velopark offers a controlled riding experience set right next to Goodrington beach and Torbay Leisure Centre.
Make a day trip down from Cofton to Torbay which is a drive away or an easy train ride from Starcross or Dawlish Warren stations.

Looking for a ride through nature or something to get the blood pumping? Maybe a bit of off-road is in your wheelhouse.
Cycling in Haldon Forest
The forest offers different routes for every level of experience.
First is the relatively flat and wide Discovery Trail suitable for most types of bike and beginners with basic bike skills. Second is the moderate Kiddens trail, suitable for mountain bikes and those with some off-road skill. Third is the Ridge Ride Trail designed for good bikes with proficient riders. There is an additional Ridge Ride Extreme technical loop for experts with drops, rocks and step downs.
Haldon Forest also offers a skill area and pump loop for those looking to learn or sharpen their off-road skills.
Of course Haldon Forest also offers other events such as Segway tours and the excellent Go Ape centre. Cofton Holidays is only down the road from this action packed Forest adventure.

Cycling on Dartmoor
Dartmoor has an extensive network of quiet lanes and designated cycle routes. However, if mountain biking is more your thing, then there are over 350km of bridleways and byways within the National Park to explore.
The Granite way
The Granite Way is a well surfaced traffic free trail which runs for 16 miles between Okehampton & Lydford. It offers spectacular views and is fairly flat, well as flat as Dartmoor can be!
In years past the awe inspiring views would have been enjoyed by Victorian train passengers on their journey between Exeter and Plymouth.

Some of your kind words...

The Warren Family
I just want to say how impressed my fellow Motorhomers and Caravaners were with the welcome and service we received during our stay. Staff in the office were polite and helpful at all times. Scott the restaurant manager was most accommodating when I enquired about reserving space for 25 to 30 of us for lunch after a walk. The service in the restaurant was speedy the food hot and varied. We were very pleased with the standards. Staff in the restaurant were cheerful and polite and helped make our meal most enjoyable. We had such a good time that we will be returning again next year for our Xmas Rally.
The best holiday park we've been to in our motorhome. Our children aged 2 and 4 loved it. Great facilities, entertainment and activities in one of the best parts of Devon!

We usually camp 3 times a year and hire a caravan after the Christmas break at Cofton, and will continue to do so. We thoroughly recommend staying there. Great for families or just the 2 of you.

We have been coming to Cofton since 2009 and have stayed at least 12 times. We love everything about Cofton: the location and scenery in and around the park, the quality and cleanliness of accommodation, the friendly welcoming atmosphere; Everything about Cofton is great!
