Grab Your Bucket And Spade, We’re Off To The Beach

25 July 2017

Golden sand for as far as the eye can see. Thanks to the beach management works, this incredibly popular and iconic South Devon beach has received a long overdue face lift – much to the delight of Cofton’s visitors! A trip to the beach is an essential feature of any Devon holiday, and you’ll soon see for yourself why Dawlish Warren Beach is rated so highly with our visitors, and the 2017 improvements have only added to its desirability. We’re lucky to have so many awesome beaches in Devon, but in our opinion Dawlish Warren is the biggest and bestest!

However, it’s more than just a sandy haven for tourists. The adjoining Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve comprising of the beach, sand dunes and mudflats is an important habitat for rare species of birds, insects, and flowers. Keep your eyes open and you might spot a Dunlin, some Brent Geese or Common Centaury!

Human creature comforts are plentiful; with Funder Park theme park and pleasure ground (complete with Pirate Ship, Go Karts, and Super Slides!), trader outlets to keep you occupied until you spot the famous amusements and arcades! Who will turn their pot of change into a prize?!

If you’ve resisted the sumptuous smell of fish and chips this long, well done, but who are you kidding?! No day at the seaside will be complete without the deliciously warm and fluffy potatoes and their crispy fishy friend. Perhaps you also deserve a refreshing mint choc chip ice cream and flake to round it off…

After that delicious pit stop you may feel the need to burn off some calories with a sandy stroll. Some of you may fancy indulging their explorer instincts and venturing past Groyne 9 and looking for the secluded back beach. The stunning Exe Estuary paints a perfect picture, with small boats and ferries occasionally drifting across your canvas.

Dawlish Warren beach is just a 25 minute walk from Cofton, and there’s also two pay and display car parks if you’re taking down all the beach essentials! Dawlish Warren beach is lifeguarded when the flags are flying, but only up to Groyne 3. No dogs are allowed onto the beach between 1st April and 30th September, and outside of that time they must be kept on a lead at all times.
