Top days out in Dawlish…
18 August 2017
Dawlish. Home of the black swan, the best beaches in South Devon (but we’re bias!) and of course, our glorious home here at Cofton. We’re right in the heart of Devon between Exeter and Torquay and it’s truly a great mix of a rural and seaside location for those who want to explore. We’ve got top days out in Dawlish just down the road from Cofton or you can go further afield and enjoy the bustling city of Plymouth steeped in history. Or how about escaping to the rugged granite tors of Dartmoor?
But what about our home town of Dawlish? It’s a wonderful destination in its own right and one not to be missed on your caravan holiday or touring holiday. You could even treat yourself to one of our luxury holiday cottages in Devon? Here’s some of the top days out in Dawlish – including local recommendations!
Best foot forward – The South West Coast Path
This is the perfect way to explore both Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. Stretching from Cornwall all the way up to Devon, the coast path goes right along the coastal walls of Dawlish leading all the way up to Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve. It gives you the most breathtaking views of the coast and lets you take in the crashing waves and stunning shorelines from various vantage points. Arguably the best section of the coast path is the Dawlish-Dawlish Warren section. The terrain is rugged and you get some incredible sights of the Riviera Line.
Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve
The Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve is THE place to visit if you love stunning views, natural landscapes or bird watching. The nature reserve acts as a vital migration spot for up to 23,000 wild birds and waterfowl. Achieving blue flag status for the 19th year in a row means that you can be assured of the quality of the nature reserve beach.
The Famous Gay’s Creamery
Gay’s Creamery is a local delight. A firm favourite of many residents of Dawlish, it’s the place to visit if you’ve built up an appetite with all that exploring. If you have a sweet tooth there’s tasty treats including freshly made biscuits and cakes. But if you want something savoury and hearty, the lamb and mint pasty is a firm favourite. You can also buy some local delicacies such as home made fudge or sample an array of Devon ciders, one not to be missed on any list of top days out in Dawlish.
The Graceful Black Swans of Dawlish
A beautiful river runs through the heart of Dawlish and it’s famous for the swans that have occupied it for years. The black swans live on Dawlish Water with other exotic waterfowl and it runs through the heart of Dawlish. Perfect for strolling through the various shops and amusements while taking in the stunning environment.
All of these wonderful places are just a stones throw away in Dawlish. Why not book yourself a weekend away at Cofton and experience it for yourself?

The Warren Family
I just want to say how impressed my fellow Motorhomers and Caravaners were with the welcome and service we received during our stay. Staff in the office were polite and helpful at all times. Scott the restaurant manager was most accommodating when I enquired about reserving space for 25 to 30 of us for lunch after a walk. The service in the restaurant was speedy the food hot and varied. We were very pleased with the standards. Staff in the restaurant were cheerful and polite and helped make our meal most enjoyable. We had such a good time that we will be returning again next year for our Xmas Rally.

We usually camp 3 times a year and hire a caravan after the Christmas break at Cofton, and will continue to do so. We thoroughly recommend staying there. Great for families or just the 2 of you.

We have been coming to Cofton since 2009 and have stayed at least 12 times. We love everything about Cofton: the location and scenery in and around the park, the quality and cleanliness of accommodation, the friendly welcoming atmosphere; Everything about Cofton is great!
